Bones In Our Body

Our body contains 206 bones. If number of accessory bones are also counted, the count becomes variable and can go up to 350 bones depending on age. To understand the diseases in our body it is important to understand normal structures and functions. Only then we can recognize abnormal functions. Our skeleton is our basic structure on which everything else is laid.

What is A Sprain and How is It Treated

Sprain originates from French word espriandre which means to wring. Sprain is an injury which occurs to ligaments. Ligaments are structures that join two bones across the joints.

Mechanism of Injury

Sprain occurs due to sudden over stretching of ligaments. This may occur when a sudden uncontrolled movement occurs in the joint such as twisting of ankle or outstretching of wrist in an effort to protect oneself from fall.
