Xrays of Knee Dislocation With Ipsilateral Tibia Fracture

This xray is one of the injuries that a 25 years old young male had. He was received a s a case of polytrauma following motor vehicle accident and had traumatic brain injury, chest injury, pelvis fracture that led to visceral injury, fracture of left tibia and knee dislocation as shown. Distal pulses on the affected limb were absent.

The xray in the picture shows a knee dislocation and long fracture of tibia.

43 years old mason met with an accident and had left tibial fracture lower end. Patient was treated with plating in the tibia.

7 months after the surgery, the patient presented with history of discharge and on removal of the dressing this was visible. Xrays are here

Xrays were done and bone was found to be united.

Patient was put on antibiotic therapy and was advised plate removal.

The following xray is follow up of a mid shaft fracture of tibia and fibula which was managed conservatively in a plaster cast.

Tubular Fixator With Bent Pins In Open Fracture Lower Third Tibia – Lateral View

Following xray belongs to 33 years old lady who had an open fracture tibia grade III [Bone stripped of soft tissue cover] with closed fracture of fibula.
The patient was initially treated with wound debridement and external fixation with across the ankle fixator.

This xray was done after two months of application of the fixator and top two pins were found bent, a sign of imminent implant failure.
By that time, however skin wound had healed completely. Therefore, external fixator was removed and patient limb was splinted using a slab.

It was followed by internal fixation and bone grafting.

Undisplaced Oblique Fracture of Lower Tibia – Anteroposterior View Xray

Oblique fractures are the fracture at an angle to transverse axis of the bone and extend into two planes. Oblique fractures are result of an indirect trauma.

Open fractures occur when the covering skin layer is breached by external force or the fracture fragment injuring from within.

Open fractures are very common occurrence in leg bones because the soft tissue envelopes are very thin around the bones especially tibia in its antero medial aspect.

Xray of Malunited Fracture of Tibia and Fibula With Varus Angulation

A 35 years old young male visited the out patient department with history of trauma to ankle two days back. The ankle was swollen. The leg showed a varus deformity and marks a scar that of secondary healing  and multiple small round scars in linear fashion probably from pin insertion.

An xray of leg with ankle was done and revealed  malunited fractures of tibia and fibula with varus angulation. The deformity is evident on anteroposterior view.

There was no evidence of any fresh bony injury.
