I broke my medial malleollus plus but I will concentrate on this bone. (if you are having alot of pain and stiffness and swelling then have the metal work removed)
This was the bone that I thought would not cause many problems but it is the bone that has caused the most problems.
I broke this bone on 29th May 2009 and had the operation five days later and had three different casts, that is not including the temp casts. I went on to have a boot but I found it difficult to use becsue of the screws from a different break, so I ended up not using the boot and my leg went purple, so I started physio, but the physip did help a bit but did not combat the pain that I was having with the stiffness etc. I put up with this for a year and then had the two screws removed and it was GREAT, THE SWELLING WAS REDUCED A GREAT DEAL, THE PAIN WAS REDUCED A GREAT DEAL AND THE STIFFNESS, WHICH WAS VERY BIG HAD NEARLY GONE. I felt like a new person, but there is still some stiffness and the odd pain and if you walk alot you will get swelling but this is alot better than it was, so I would recommend having your metal work taken out.

@LB, There could be associated ligamentous injury. See your doctor again to rule out.

lateral malleolus fracture question.....

I broke my rt. ankle in Jan. 09....non-displaced fracture, no surgery....was in a boot then aircast, out of work for 4 months....and went to physical therapy. My problem is, to this day, my ankle is still swollen (mostly on the side and through the top - but occasionally on both sides), I limp every morning - and periodically throughout the day, still have pain (both sharp and dull), my foot cramps up - like a charlie horse, and I feel like I need to crack it, but it's painful. Any advice? What is the problem?

Pls help!
