Xray of Communited Fractures of Distal Femur and Proximal Tibia

This condition is also called floating knee

The xray in view belongs to 45 years old lady who was knocked down by a bus . The xrays shows comminuted fracture of distal femur, also known as intercondylar femur.

The fracture in tibia is shown by an arrow and involves upper part of tibia. Tibial fracture appears to be of spiral type.

This kind of injury requires very high velocity trauma and is usually associated with injuries to other part of the body as well.

This lady also had fracture of clavicle and distal end radius on the same side.
